Twenty-One Mukhi Rudraksha Legend
According to legend, Kubera, the Yaksha, Dikpal and Demi God in the realm of Finance, opened his eyes after completing penance of a long duration.
He was stunned to see Lord Shiva’s radiant form right before his eyes. Lord Shiva endowed him with the power to visualize the celestial light. Armed with this, Lord Kubera was witness to Goddess Maha Lakshmi right before him.
However, the goddess wasn’t happy to be gazed at by Kubera. She was angry by his open admiration of her and in retaliation; she gouged one of Lord Kubera’s eyes. At this point, Lord Shiva eased the situation by stepping in to bless Lord Kubera by making him the Treasurer of riches. Lord Shiva then announced that Lord Kubera would henceforth rule over Alkapuri.
One of the mantras in Gayatri mantra refers to him in these words:
